Study Excerpts

These are choice "truth statements" and other quotations from the study materials of SFIU by Students and Staff. Many of the pertinent points toward spiritual enlightenment may be found here. They may be considered an independent study and guides toward dissertations as a stand alone feature. With the love of Christ, I present them to you.

Long ago, when I first began my spiritual education; some things seemed to leap off the page to me. They made such a profound effect, I wrote them down. This small collection is part of that effort.

I noticed rereading the same material with some months or years intervening would result in different items coming to my attention. Therefore, these may not mean as much to you as they have to me.

I inquired about this phenomena with other Students; and I was told they are classified as "Truth Statements". That is, they are the truth and recognized deep within us.

On further study, I learned these items were from the Holy Spirit of God. I trust you will enjoy them as much as I.

Many of the truths and concepts listed here
you may find disagreeable.

Some of them require a complete change in thinking, compared to what we might consider "normal".

Truth remains truth, whether we deny it or accept it. God has always loved us enough to leave us with the choice. Choose. Choose from love.

Research has proven a commonality exists through all spiritual studies in this world.

This commonality is the love of God,
The original meaning of "mysticism".

For us, your struggles are accepted as your divine right.

From experience, we know
the course will be taken now,
or later; or in another form.

The Love of Christ goes out to you.

--The Director and Staff

"Let's begin with level flight."

--- Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'.

"Love one another, as I have
Loved you."

-- Jesus, the Christ.
-- John 15:12 KJV

"Peace, Be Still."

-Jesus, the Christ
-- Mark 4:39 KJV

The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore your eye be single,
your whole body shall be full of light.

Matt. 6:22 KJV

{This is an unmistakable reference to "the third eye" of enlightenment.}

"Prayer ... means yearning for the
simple presence of God..."

and "our desire and our prayer
should be summed up in St. Augustine's words:

Noverim te, noverim me
('May I know you, may I know myself!)".

--Father Thomas Merton

Belief is of the ego,
Our sense of false identity.

Knowing is of the Holy Spirit
Of God.

-- The Founder

"Toil should not make a person sad;
men should be happiest when they toil.

When hope and love are back of toil,
then all of life is filled with joy and peace,
and this is heaven.

Do you not know that such a heaven
is for you?"

-- Jesus, the Christ.
-- The Way Gospel -- 33:6

"All things, whatever (spiritual thing)
you ask in prayer - believing -
you shall receive."

- Jesus, the Christ.
- Matt: 21,22.

And Jesus said, "My brother, man,
your thoughts are wrong;

your heaven is not far away; and
it is not a place of metes and bounds,
it is not a country to be reached;
it is a state of mind."

-- Jesus, the Christ.
-- The Way Gospel -- 33:8

You will begin to touch heaven, Jonathan, in the moment you touch the perfect speed. And that isn't flying a thousand miles an hour, or a million, of flying at the speed of light. Because any number is a limit, and perfect speed, my son, is being there. -- Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'

Spiritual enlightenment is considered
to be a state of "knowing".

Knowing cannot be accomplished
through the intellect,

but through the divine dispensation
of the Holy Spirit of God.

--The Founder

These Desert Fathers were not anti-intellectual, but they constantly warned that the mystical experience was primarily beyond the grasp of reason. St. Macarius the Great expressed the teachings of all the early mystics on this point when he said:

"Spiritual subjects cannot be grasped by those who have not experienced them. But a saintly and faithful soul is helped in its understanding by the participation of the Holy Spirit. Then the heavenly treasures of the Spirit become clear only to a man who experiences them, but a man not initiated into them is wholly unable even to think of them. Thus hear of them with reverence until, for the sake of your faith, you are granted the same. Then you will know, from the experience of the eyes of the soul, in what blessings and mysteries the souls of Christians can participate even in this life."

Your whole body is nothing more than thought itself, in a form you can see. Break the chains of your thought, and you break the chains of your body, too. -- Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'

"I am a Pilgrim, a wanderer. I shall remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until I am given shelter and fasting until I am given food." --- Peace Pilgrim

You may have seen her walking through your town or along the highway --- a silver-haired woman dressed in navy blue slacks and shirt; and a short tunic with pockets all around the bottom in which she carried her only worldy possessions. It said: "PEACE PILGRIM" in white letters on the tunic and "25,000 miles on foot for peace." on the back. She passed away early, in an accident from a ride she accepted by an admirer. A modern day Ghandi, she will be long remembered by those who met and knew this gentle soul. The peace she demonstrated

"...You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way."

'Are you saying I can fly?'

"I say you are free. The only true law is that which leads to freedom." Jonathan said. "There is no other. Whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form. The hardest thing in the world is to convince a bird that he is free, and that he can prove it for himself if he'd just spend a little time practicing. Why should that be so hard?" -- Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'

If one were really unified with his true self, there would never be any question about friendship.
--- Ernest Holmes, Founder of Science of Mind.

"You don't love hatred and evil, of course. You have to practice and see the real gull, the good in every one of them, and to help them see it in themselves. That's what I mean by love. It's fun, when you get the knack of it. You need to keep finding yourself, that real; unlimited Fletcher Seagull. He's your instructor. You need to understand him, and practice him. Don't believe what your eyes are showing you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understand- ing, find out what you already know, and you'll see the way to fly." -- Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'

The uncontrolled mind
Does not guess that the Atman is present;
How can it meditate?
Without meditation, where is peace?
Without peace, where is happiness?
--- From the Bhagavad Gita of India.

Learning
is finding out
what you already know.

Doing is demonstrating that
you know it.

Teaching is reminding others
that they know just as well as you.

You are all learners,
doers, teachers.

You
teach best
what you most need
to learn.

A word fitly spoken
Is like apples of gold
In pictures of silver.

- Proverbs 25:11 KJV

"Contemplation is the highest expression
of man's intellectual and spiritual life.

It is that life itself,
fully awake, fully active,
fully aware that it is active.

It is spiritual wonder.

It is spontaneous awe
at the sacredness of life,
of being.

It is gratitude for life,
for awareness and
for being."

-- Father Thomas Merton,
Trappist Monk.
Abbey of Gethsemane, KY

Be Still, and Know that I Am God.

-- Psalm 46:10 KJV

The
simplest questions
are the most profound.

Where are you born?

Where is your home?

Where are you going?

What are you doing?

Think about
these once in a while, and
watch your answers
change.

Know that through prayer remembering comes,
then recognition, then acceptance, then at-oneness,
then final liberation.

--- from the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

Your friends
will know you better
in the first minute you meet
than
your acquaintances
will know you in
a thousand
years.

Then it fell to Rabbi Israel of Rizhyn to overcome misfor- tune. Sitting in his armchair, his head in his hands, he spoke to God: "I am unable to light the fire and I do not know the prayer; I cannot even find the place in the forest. All I can do is tell the story, and this must be sufficient." And it was sufficient.

God made man because he loves stories.

--- Elie Wiezel

There is
no such thing as a problem
without a gift for you
in its hands.

You seek problems
because you need
their gifts.

"For myself, I have only one desire
and that is the desire for solitude--

to disappear into God,

to be submerged in His peace,

to be lost in the secret of His Face."

--Father Thomas Merton

The American poet, John Neihardt, said that:
"Man without mysticism is a monster",

while Aldous Huxley thought that the Mystics:

"Are a channel through which a little knowledge of reality
filters down to our human universe of ignorance and illusion."

"A totally unmystical world would be a world totally blind and insane."

"Sufism is a path towards the Truth
where the provisions are Love.

It has been called: "The Way".

Its method is to look solely

in one direction,

and its objective is God."

From: The Nimatullahi Sufi Order

The bond
that links your true family
is not one of blood, but
of respect and joy in
each other's life.

Rarely do members
of one family grow up
under the same
roof.

The Way Gospel, Chapter 161:

Jesus said:

4 * "I give to you a new command: As I love you and give my life for you, so shall you love the world, and give your life to save the world."

5 * "Love one another as you love yourselves, and then the world will know that you are sons of God, disciples of the son of man whom God has glorified."

From: The Way Gospel, Chapter 162:

Jesus said:

7 * "But, lo, I say, Before the great day of the Lord shall come, the Holy Breath [*Spirit] will make all mysteries known--"

8 * "The mysteries of the soul, of life, of death, of immortality; the oneness of a man with every other man and with his God."

9 * "Then will the world be led to truth, and man will be the truth."

Argue
for your limitations
and sure enough,
they're
yours.

"Grandfather, Great Spirit,
Master of all things,
you who are called by so many names,
And worshipped in so many ways;
Allow me to become the Earth,
Teach me to surrender to the tracks,
So that I may become that which I follow,
And if I am worthy,
Allow these tracks to lead me closer to you."

--- Stalking Wolf, Apache Elder

The
truth you
speak nas no past
and no future.

It is,
and that's all it
needs to be.

"Illusions" and
'The Messiah's Handbook',

Quoting Maximus the Great, St. Maximus the Confessor declared:
"There are three different purposes for which gifted men write without fault or constraint;
the first, as memoranda for themselves;
the second, for the benefit of others;
the third, for obedience.
With this last purpose many writings have been composed for those who humbly seek the word of truth.

Here is
a test to find
whether your mission on earth
is finished:

If you're alive,
it isn't.

Another system of prayer was suggested by St. Nilus of Sinai:

"He who wishes to see what his mind really is, must free himself of all thoughts; then he will see it like a sapphire or the hue of heaven....

Mind is a sublime height of the hue of heaven in which, during prayer, there appears the light of the Holy Trinity....

Ascetic abstinence as a pre-condition for the mystic experience was taught by St. Isaac the Syrian: "Every prayer which does not tire the body, and make the heart contrite is like an abortive child: for such a prayer is without soul.... A satiated body has no vision of the mysteries of God....

"Choose for yourself a sweet doing, continual practices of night vigil, by which all the fathers freed themselves of the old Adam and had their mind renewed. During those hours the soul feels the immortal life, its senses are freed from the darkness of passions and it receives the Holy Spirit....St. Isaac the Syrian.

History

The Searcher Foundation was conceived in 1973
when research indicated
many persons were dissatisfied
with organized religions.

The practice of 'religion' and 'belief systems'
was not bringing happiness for many.

Yet, their 'search' for deeper spiritual
meaning was evident.

The founder of The Searcher Foundation
returned to the oldest spiritual
practice of a personal relationship with God,
rather than a group formula.

Since its inception, The Searcher Foundation
has helped many persons achieve personal happiness.

The emphasis is upon an Internet Ministry
through E-Mail communications,
that as many as possible may find relief.

May you accept the love of Christ.

Peace be to all. Good will to all.

"Peace, Be Still."
